I've been so excited to share Megan's bridals, but had to wait until after her wedding, which was this past Saturday. We shot at Tanglewood, but when I arrived it was pouring rain. I was so glad that Megan wanted to wait it out. The ground was soaked, but we were careful and managed to keep her dress pretty clean. I'm still not sure how we did that! The light was beautiful since we shot so late into the evening.

I really love these two, that we shot after the sun had gone down. A flash off to the left of the camera really gives them a dramatic feel.

Hope and Will

Hope and Will were married June 6th, 2009 at St. Anne's in Rock Hill, SC, with a reception at Baxter Village Hall in Fort Mill, SC. The wedding was absolutely beautiful and had such a wonderful vibe. I always intend to post sneak peek blogs, but rarely get them posted until after I've edited all the pictures, but this time I really wanted to pick a few out to post.

The wedding party was so much fun and I loved that the groomsmen were willing to swing for a photo!

I really liked Hope's black shoes! They looked great with her dress.

The reception was beautiful, with blues, reds, oranges, and pinks and lots of gorgeous details, which are always among my favorite shots.

Hope's family is so sweet and it was obvious that they really care about each other.

The reception was a lot of fun and everyone had a great time dancing.

For Susan's bridals we started at her beautiful wedding venue, The Grace Event Center, and then worked our way around uptown Charlotte. Her dress is gorgeous and I loved the combination of beautiful flowers and trees along with the buildings and architecture of the city.

Diane and Jason were married May 4th, 2009 at Calgary Baptist Church in Millers Creek, North Carolina. Their wedding was originally planned to be outdoors at Blackburn Farms, but the weather turned bad and the location had to be changed at the last minute. Wedding planner Laura Blackburn of From the Heart Events did a wonderful job of moving everything and the wedding day went flawlessly! Diane and Jason decided to shoot their formals together before the ceremony, which allowed them to get to the reception quicker. Here's Jason waiting for his beautiful bride.

Susan and Brian were married April 25th, 2009 at the Grace Event Center in Charlotte. The bridesmaids wore black and carried bouquets with white calla lilies, blue hydrangeas, and touches of pink. After the ceremony we went to Trade and Tryon for some wedding party pictures and then returned for the reception. The food was fabulous and everyone had a great time dancing and partying.

Kate and Wilson are getting married in Asheville on November 7th. I won't be shooting their wedding, though, because I'll be one of the bridesmaids! I've known Kate since we were in high school, and have been friends ever since. Kate and Wilson met at UNC their freshman year, but didn't start dating until they were both in grad school. I'm so excited for them!

We wandered around the UNC-Charlotte gardens, one of my favorite places for photoshoots, to take their engagement pictures.

Natasha and Chris had an outdoor ceremony at The Saratoga Springs in Mt. Pleasant, NC. I've been looking forward to this wedding (well, I look forward to all my weddings!), for the vibrant fall colors and the beautiful location, but I started getting stressed mid-week before the wedding because the forecast was calling for rain. It ended up raining nearly all week long, right up until a few hours before the wedding. I'm so glad it stopped and Natasha and Chris got to have the gorgeous wedding they'd planned!

As we were waiting for the ceremony to start, I was afraid it might start raining again but right as Natasha stepped out the carriage the sun popped out.

Natasha wore her sister's dress for the ceremony and changed into a smaller, much easier-to-dance-in dress during the reception.

Chris's firefighter friends obviously had a good time!

Natalie and Jason were married on November 1st, 2008 at Asbury Methodist Church in Hamptonville, NC. Their reception was held at the Holiday Inn in Jonesville, NC. Natalie chose black and gold for the wedding colors and used bright fall colors in the bouquets, and nature cooperated unbelievably well - beside the church was this beautiful gold field with mountains covered in fall foliage in the background. That, plus the deep blue sky, made the perfect backdrop for the formal pictures.

Samantha and Andrew were married here in Elkin, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, and then held their reception at Cedarbrook Country Club. It was kind of nice to only have to drive a couple of miles to get to the wedding!

Samantha gave a banjo to Andrew as a wedding gift - perfect place to stage the ring shot.

The little flowergirl is such a sweetheart. I loved watching her dance with the other little girls at the reception.

Laura Carver, of Laura Carver Photography assisted me and will be assisting me as long as she's in the area. I'll miss her tomorrow, though, because she was married on Wednesday and will be on her honeymoon. Congratulations, Laura!

We shot Natalie's bridals back in October, in a friend's backyard. She bought her dress from Bridal Traditions in N. Wilkesboro and it was absolutely stunning. Her bouquet was from Booneville Florist and I loved the fall colors in it. I've shot several weddings they have furnished with flowers and they always do a good job. We started shooting about 2 hours before sunset, my favorite time to shoot because the light is always so golden and soft.

Juliet and Josh were married October 11th at Josh's parents' house on Lake Hickory. The ceremony was held in the backyard, overlooking the lake. Everything was so pretty, the colors, the weather, the setting, the flowers, the bridesmaids dresses...

I loved the getaway boat! Perfect for a lakeside wedding.

And then there's the getaway car - I was at a stop sign this time, so technically I wasn't driving while I took this picture.

The reception was so much fun! The party was still going strong when I left, so I know everyone had a wonderful time.

Audrey and Bryan were married on September 20th, 2008 in Cherryville. After a beautiful ceremony at the 2nd Baptist Church in Cherryville, they went over to the Cherryville Country Club for the reception, where everyone danced and had a wonderful time. I always love to see couples having this much fun at their wedding!

The wedding had a black and white damask theme with pink accents and I loved all the little coordinating details.

One of my favorite parts of the day is when the bride is getting her hair and makeup done. I love capturing those little details that help tell the story of the wedding day.

Audrey's bouquet was so gorgeous - with orchids and crystals mixed in among the lilies.

I loved the look on Audrey's mom's face as she came down the aisle.

Kari and Tim were married at Rosa Lee Manor in Pilot Mountain on August 9, 2008. The weather and location were absolutely beautiful and we were really lucky to have lots of white puffy clouds floating around the gorgeous blue sky. The ceremony was held outdoors and the reception was underneath a tent. I loved the Tiffany blue that was used for the bridesmaid dresses.

Charity and Scott

Charity and Scott were married at Freedom Park in Charlotte on June 29th, 2008. I met Charity in September of 2007 when she was a bridesmaid in a wedding I was shooting. She told me that night that she wanted me to be her photographer, and I was so excited when she did hire me to shoot her wedding a few months later!

The girls got ready at the Blake Hotel in downtown Charlotte. The wedding colors were red, black, and white and so was the lobby of the hotel, so I really wanted to do some cool, fashion-y type shots in the lobby, but there wasn't any time. The girls made it down to the lobby at 3:25 and the ceremony was at 3:30, so we took one shot and ran!

The ceremony was held outdoors near the bridge over the pond and it was beautiful! I love outdoor ceremonies, although I was a bit concerned I was going to make all the ducks start quacking when I was trying to get to one side to get a shot through the willow trees. I decided Scott and Charity would rather I forego the cool willow tree shot so that their ceremony wasn't interrupted by duck-quacking.

As always, it was a bit crazy after the ceremony, and I usually shoot the bride with her bridesmaids and the groom with the groomsmen beforehand, but there wasn't time at this wedding. I did manage to get the family shots, wedding party shots, and the guys alone in 20 minutes and had the girls out of there in another 10 minutes. I try to have fun with the wedding party and let them do what they want and then go from there, to create more natural group shots. I loved when the best man sat down in Scott's lap, so I made him stay there.

On to the reception, which was held at the Mahlon Adams Pavilion. The inside was decorated very elegantly with black and white details and the food was really, really good. This was actually the first time I've eaten at a wedding I was shooting, and I'm glad I did!

Scott and Charity's first dance was so sweet.

The bouquet and garter toss were a lot of fun - the bouquet hit a light and the garter hit the floor, but the intended people still ended up with them! I expect to be shooting Frank and Cristin's wedding next year!

It was a great party and I know everyone had a fabulous time! I'm so glad I got to be a part of this day. Oh, and there was a lot of this:

Beth and Dillon

Beth and Dillon were married at Round Hill Baptist Church on June 7, 2008. The wedding colors were azalea pink and navy blue, and despite it being a million degrees (OK, so it was only 105F), the wedding was beautiful.

New Name, New Logo

I've been toying with the idea of changing my business name to Shiloh Wiles Photography, and I finally did it! I'm hoping Shiloh Wiles Photography will be a little more memorable than Wiles Photography. There's lots of Wileses around here, but not too many Shilohs. I also finally settled on a logo, but I had a good friend and graphic designer make it for me. There will also be some changes to my blog and website, but they'll have to wait until I'm finished with all the albums and proofs I have to deliver!

Jessica and Josh had a busy May! They graduated from UNC and then were married at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville, NC. Their reception was held at Raffaldini Vineyards in Ronda, NC. The wedding was gorgeous and so much fun! After a stunning sunset, everyone danced late into the evening.

I think Jessica has such a pretty smile and she looks so happy and so in love when she's with Josh. I think these two are going to have a long, happy life together.

I always love it when I can get to a wedding early enough to capture the "prep" shots. I love those quiet little moments before everything goes crazy. I love the crazy, too, though, which is good because that just goes along with wedding photography.

Nicole and Ricky

Nicole and Ricky's wedding ceremony was held at Wilkes Faith Temple and the reception was at Temple Hill Community Center in Ronda, NC. The theme for the wedding was "Oh Happy Day" and it certainly was! Everything was very bright and cheerful, with the yellows, blues, pinks, and lime greens used in the decorations. Nicole is such a sweet, happy person and I can tell just from the way Ricky looks at her that he's crazy about her. Nicole wore her grandmother's jewelry and included her favorite flowers in her bouquet, so I decided to use vintage processing on some of the images to give them a classic feel. I thought maybe Nicole has some pictures of her grandmother as a young woman with soft colors like these.

Jessica's Bridals

We shot Jessica's bridals at Raffaldini Vineyards, where her reception will be held. This is such a gorgeous location! Almost overwhelming because of all the possibilities. I know her wedding will be beautiful.

Logo Indecision

You may have noticed that my logo keeps changing. I started out with this and I thought black and white was more professional, but it's boring.

So then I tried this. I'm definitely sticking with these colors - I used purple and gray/silver in my own wedding and they're my favorite colors. I like the idea of using colors that reflect my personality, so they will be prominent in my branding.

Eventually, I decided that the logo above was just too vague and didn't look wedding-y enough, so I worked on something else and came up with this. It's supposed to be a diamond ring, but I'm afraid it looks like a planet orbiting. I'll probably stick with it for a while until I finally break down and hire a real graphic designer to create something perfect!

My daughter was chosen as one of the senior mascots for Elkin High School - a tradition I've never heard of, but cute none the less. Much bribing and a piece of candy from the photographer's assistant convinced her to stand still and wear her hat long enough for the photographer to get the group shots.

I think she looks just like a small, blonde version of my husband's niece:

I definitely didn't envy those photographers the job of lining up all those kids! I think I'll stick to weddings. And not to be disloyal to my high school, but navy gowns are a lot better looking than the shiny green ones we had at Wilkes Central!

Charity's Bridals

We shot Charity's bridal portraits at Tanglewood Park behind the manor house and in the rose gardens. We started about 2 hours before sunset and finished shooting right as the sun was beginning to set and the light was perfect! If possible, I always like to shoot either two hours after sunrise or two hours before sunset. I had a lot of fun playing with sun flare to come up with some interesting effects.

I first met Charity in September 2007 when she was a bridesmaid in a wedding I was shooting. I'm so excited to be shooting her wedding (and going to her bachelorette party at the beach) next month! Yes, I'm just in this business to make new friends. :P

Nichole and Keith

Keith and Nichole were married on April 26th at Richmond Hill Baptist Church in Booneville. I had so much fun and it was a great way to start the wedding season. I can tell that Nichole and Keith are best friends and I know they're going to be very happy together. I loved Nichole's dress! I used the same color purple in my wedding and I wish I could have had a sash like that!

These are all jumbled up, but it's ridiculously hard to move them and it's past my bedtime already. The confetti stuff? The groomsmen coated the car in it, outside and interior. I even found some in my car the next day!

Yeah, I'm just going to leave this one up to remind myself not to park my stupid car anywhere near where I'm going to be shooting. Thank goodness for Photoshop/cropping, so I can fix it afterwards when I do something like that!

New Sample Album!

I have been so excited about getting this sample album. I found out it was coming today and I've been checking the porch every 15 minutes. When the FedEx driver finally came I was outside - he probably thought I was insane for squealing and running to the curb to get my package. I was not disappointed; this is a gorgeous book. They have a huge selection of cover materials, so every album cover can be completely unique and suited to a couple's style. If any of you drove by my house and saw me laying in the grass taking pictures of a book, this is why:

Nicole's Bridals

The weather was messing with me again for Nicole's bridals! We had scheduled her shoot for Friday morning at W. Kerr Scott Lake, and of course it rained all night long. Even though it was cold, it stopped raining long enough for us to shoot. With the help of my trusty shower curtain, we managed to keep Nicole's dress mostly dry. She has the longest eyelashes I've ever seen! I also loved her jewelry - the pin on her dress was her grandmother's.

All last week I was watching the weather and admiring all the blooming trees in anticipation of the bridal portraits I was to shoot on Saturday at Tanglewood. I had all these ideas of a perfect spring day with beautiful flowers and buildings to work with. Then I woke up Saturday morning to 40F and drizzling rain. So much for my perfect bridal portrait session! I scrambled around to find a few (dry) alternatives and we decided to shoot at a house that belongs to a friend of mine. We ended not having flowers, but Nichole and her dress were pretty enough without them! Nichole was such a trooper, too. Even though it was cold and wet, she never complained once while sitting on the ground or being outside in her strapless dress. I had so much fun on this shoot and I'm very excited about Nichole's wedding in April.

Shoot at Appalachian State University

Last Thursday I rode up to Appalachian State University with Park Ranger Chad Eller of W. Kerr Scott Lake to shoot some pictures of the football players for new water safety trading cards the rangers will be handing out to kids. The weather was perfect and we got to watch the team practice, since we got there a little early. Yosef was squeezed into a life jacket, but I found out later that the girl inside didn't know why we were putting a life jacket on her. She went along with it, though, and I have to admit there's something really amusing about a mountaineer mascot wearing a life jacket. The football players and coach were very fun to work with and even taped water safety promos to be run on the local cable stations.

The Wilkes Wedding Expo was hosted by Bridal Traditions at the Holiday Inn Express on February 23, 2008. There was a great turn-out and I met so many lovely brides! I even got to see some former clients! Attendees who entered the Holiday Inn were greeted by the sight of balloons and decorations provided by the Candy Company. The theme was "Venetian Masquerade" and the colors were blue, white, and silver.

Wilkes Wedding Expo

Launching my new blog!

All the other cool photographers are doing it, so I thought I would too! I will be using my blog for posting samples of my newest work, talking about what changes I'm making to my packages, and generally keeping my clients updated as to what is going on with Wiles Photography.
